Spring Cleaning

What are you ready to let go of as you shed your winter coat and step into this season of lightness, vitality and new beginnings? Below are some resources to support your journey into Spring.  Enjoy opening to the energy and beauty of both inner and outer renewal this season.

Spring Clean your physical space, finances & even your relationship to food

Spring Clean your Life!  Check out this great slideshow featuring 23 spring cleaning tips.

Clear your clutter!  I'm always amazed at how much lighter and more energized I feel after even cleaning out a kitchen drawer.  A deep Spring home cleaning creates amazing shifts on many levels.
  • Two of m favorite books on this subject is Karen Kingston's Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui. and Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.
  • Adam Baker has a wonderful recommendation: Bring an empty box into a room and start to purge what isn't aligned with your potential self. For each item, ask yourself "Does this add joy, value or purpose into my life?".  If it doesn't, drop it off at a thrift store.
  • You can also check out Whole Living's on-line guide to clearing your clutter and The Spruce's 5 Feng Shui Spring Cleaning Tips.

Here's a free e-book on cleaning your financial clutter.

Unplug!  What about a Digital Detox this Spring?  Go a day without any high tech gadgets, or turn off ALL your screens 2 hours before bedtime for a week. Instead of connecting with technology, connect with yourself.  Journal, take up a new (or old) hobby, take a warm bath, gaze at stars, take a walk, meditate, do some gentle yoga or stretching exercises.

Clean up your diet and lifestyle!

Clear processed and junk foods out of your cupboards and renew your commitment to eating real, whole foods.  If you need a jumpstart into clean eating, check out my Spring Cleanse Guides & Tips BELOW.

Sit in a peaceful environment without distractions and savor your food.  Eat slowly and mindfully.  I love the Institute for the Psychology of Eating's 10 Simple Strategies to Forever Change Your Relationship with Food.  Also, check out my Sacred Art of Eating.

Maybe it's time to renew your daily routine.  Check out my 10 Daily Practices and Dinacharya (Ayurvedic Daily Rituals).

Stress Relief

Things can seem turbo-charged this time of year as we try to keep up with the fast pace of all the new life blooming around us.  Stop, take a deep breath, and take care of yourself.  You'll be able to make more informed, authentic decisions when you slow down, relax and become more mindful.  Here are some ideas to get you to that peaceful place:

Daily Practices

Check out my Affirmations for Stress Relief.

My top 10 recommendations for reducing stress & increasing energy: Wake Refreshed, Breathe, Meditate, Hydrate, Move, Eat Well, Get Outside, Connect, Unplug & Give Thanks.

Planning ahead is always a great stress reducer.  Each Sunday or Monday, create a weekly menu and use it your a weekly grocery trip (here's my Weekly Meal Planner).  Prep food the night before to make your morning run more smoothly.  Schedule your exercise, meditation and yoga time right into your calendar.

Create a Fun & Joy List.  Then commit to scheduling these activities into your calendar.

Meditation

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra, or "yogi sleep", is quided meditation with the goal of bringing you to the deepest possible state of relaxation.  Click here to listen to a free 8 or 20-minute Yoga Nidra Practice with the founder of iRest yoga nidra, Richard Miller, PhD.

Yoga

Exercise

We know that exercise is a great stress reliever.  Click here for some inspiration to fit exercise into your busy day.

Remember that adequate recovery allows exercise to be a stress reliever instead of a stress generator.  You should always feel energized after your workout, not depleted.  Fuel your activity with the right pre- and post-workout nutrition, lots of fresh water, and schedule appropriate rest and recovery days into your weekly routine.
