Evaluating your Fitness
General physical fitness, or total fitness, is defined by how well your body performs in the components of physical fitness.
There are many approaches to testing physical fitness. Consult with a fitness expert or head to the President’s Challenge website, which features several resources, testing guidelines and tools including the Presidential Activity Lifestyle Award (PALA+) and The Presidential Youth Fitness Program. You can also google “Evaluating Physical Fitness” for a variety of different tests to evaluate your fitness.
Underwater body composition testing is considered the most accurate measurement of body composition, although there are also tools available for the public using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). University of Utah College of Health’s Peak Health and Fitness offers body composition analysis via the Bod Pod. The Bod Pod analysis is based on the same whole-body measurement principal as underwater weighing but uses patented air displacement technology instead of water.
