Zoom Class Tutorial

1. How to join a Zoom class
2. How to make the most of your Zoom experience
3. Troubleshooting tips

How to join a Zoom class:

Please try to log in 10 minutes early to say hello and make sure that your audio & video are working well.
  • Laptops and tablets work best for online classes, as they're easy to move around and feature large screens but mobile phones and PC's also work.
  • If you're using a tablet or phone, download the free Zoom app before class (If you're using a laptop or computer, you'll get automatically prompted to download the app when you log into the meeting).
  • Click the meeting URL link for the class (or enter the Meeting ID and password).
  • When prompted, say yes to joining the class through computer audio and video.
  • If you're new to Zoom or you haven't used Zoom on your device yet, PLEASE log into your class AT LEAST 10 minutes early to test your audio and video and to make sure that you don't run into any technology issues. Watch this great 5 minute tutorial.
  • Problems? See the troubleshooting tips below.
Watch this 5 minute tutorial on using Zoom.

How to make the most of your Zoom experience:

  • Preparing for class:
    • Set up your device in a place where you will have room to perform the exercises AND see your device's video screen.
    • Make sure that you have water and any needed props.
  • During class:
    • Please turn your audio on at the beginning of class so that you can say hello to everyone. I will mute everyone but myself during class and then unmute all at the end of class to check in and say our farewells.
    • You have the option of having your own video on during the class. This creates a wonderful sense of community but you can turn your video on or off at any time.
    • You can fill your device's screen with all participants' videos (Gallery View) or just the instructor's video (Active Speaker View).
      • Most people enjoy Gallery View at the beginning and end of class but find that being in Active Speaker View allows them to best see the exercises and poses demonstrated.
      • To move between these two viewing options, use the viewing button (located at the top right of most screens). Simply click it to toggle between the two viewing options.
      • Alternately, you can pin a video so that it takes up the whole screen: Hover over the person's video box until you see 3 dots at the top right; click on these 3 dots and select the "pin" option.
    • Listen to your body! You should never feel pain during any of the exercises. Follow my modifications and/or perform your own modifications as needed.

Troubleshooting Tips

Trouble logging into class?

First, log completely out of the Zoom app, then follow these steps:
  1. Make sure that you've clicked the correct log-in link then log-in again. If that doesn't work...
  2. Create a Zoom account and log in using the meeting ID (the Meeting ID is the last 9 digits of the log-in link).

Trouble with video or audio?

When logging in, you should be prompted to "test" your audio speaker and video. I recommend doing this when logging in for the first time on your device.
  • If you have audio issues:
    1. Make sure your device's volume is on & all the way up,
    2. Make sure you aren't muted if you're trying to talk by clicking on the microphone icon on the bottom left of your screen.
    3. Click the arrow to the right of the microphone icon and make sure the audio settings are correct.
    4. Make sure that when you logged into class, you joined "with computer audio". To confirm this, leave the meeting then log in again.
  • If you have video issues:
    1. Make sure you aren't muted by clicking the video button on the bottom left of your screen.
    2. Click the arrow to the right of the video icon and check your video settings.
    3. Make sure that you logged onto class using video. To confirm this, leave the meeting then log in again.
