Seasonal Wellness Guide

Ritu Sandhi: The Gap Between Seasons

The change between seasons always leaves us guessing. One day, it's snowing and stormy and the next day it's warm and sunny.

In Ayurveda, the transition between seasons is called Ritu Sandhi. This 2-4 week shift is a time to be flexible by taking cues from nature's changes - both the environment within you and the environment around you.

Make day-to-day adjustments.

Follow my Late Fall & Winter Wellness Guide:
  • on cold or stormy days
  • if you're feeling dry, stressed, anxious or scattered
And make sure to favor stews, roasted root veggies and other heavier foods to keep warm and grounded.

Follow my Spring Wellness Guide:
  • on warm and sunny days
  • if you're feeling any physical or emotional congestion and need to create some lightness
And make sure to favor broths, sprouts, microgreens, steamed veggies and other lighter foods. BONUS: Add some spices to really get things moving!

Begin to stabilize your routine.

The transition between seasons is a time when your outer environment (the weather) as well as your inner environment (your digestion and constitution) fluctuate daily, and sometimes throughout a single day. With so much changing inside you and around you, it's the perfect time to begin moving into a routine (if you don't already have one). It's amazing how grounding regular meal, wake and sleep times are - Your body and mind will thank you! In fact, science is proving that WHEN you eat is as important as WHAT you eat (more here).

Need a little more TLC? Check out these self-care routines
.

Slowly welcome in the new season.

Once you're feeling stable and grounded through a regular routine, begin to SLOWLY make changes to your diet and lifestyle to welcome in the Spring season of renewal. Let nature guide you. Enjoy the natural harvest of:
  • sprouts & microgreens (grow sprouts in a mason jar and microgreens on your windowsill)
  • Spring greens
  • berries, cherries, beets and other lymph-moving foods
